Fertilization

FERTILIZATION
tampa_lawn_fertilization-300x198Landscape fertilization is essential in maintaining a lush, thick, green lawn as well as healthy flowering shrubs, evergreens, palms and trees.  A garden tended with proper fertilization will be healthier, greener and explode with color during growing season.  Landscapes and gardens that go untreated may be sparse, lackluster and possibly surrender to weeds, disease and climatic changes.  All grasses and plants must have certain essential chemical elements in order to achieve optimum growth and appearance.  These essential elements may be added to the soil through fertilizer.  Professional fertilization will help ensure stronger root systems which will keep the entire landscape healthier and more resistant to weeds, disease and insects.
Lawn and turf grass require totally different fertilization formulas than shrubs and trees.  Turf grasses, especially the warm weather grasses prevalent in Florida can be very temperamental.  Each variety of grass requires a specific formula as well as varying amounts of fertilizer.  For example, Bahia grass, Bermuda grass, Centipede grass, St. Augustine grass and Zoysia grass are all warm weather grasses, however, require different formulas of macronutrients and micronutrients.  Completely uniform coverage of the soil’s surface is indicative of healthy turf grass.  Macronutrients include Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium, which are required in greater quantities.  Calcium, Magnesium and Sulfur are required in smaller quantities.  Micronutrients include Iron, Manganese, Zinc and Copper, Chlorine, Molybdenum and Boron which are required in minute quantities.  Professional landscape fertilization will deliver the proper formula, amount and proper timing of these nutrients.  If improperly applied, fertilizer can damage a lawn.  Newly sodded, plugged or sprigged lawns require a different formula and fertilization schedule than well-established grasses.
As with lawns, different species of plants, shrubs and trees require varying types, amounts and schedules for fertilization.  Flowering plants require nutrients that differ from the needs of other shrubs.  Proper timing for fertilization is essential.  Premature application of nutrients can cause new growth to be damaged by a late season freeze.  Newly planted flowers, plants and shrubs must be treated differently than established ones.  Regardless the age or species of plantings, appropriate fertilization techniques will bring out the vibrant colors of flowering shrubs, encourage thick foliage in hedges, and create lush, beautiful lawns.  Pro-Turf professionals are extensively trained and experienced in fertilization application.  Their expertise ensures continued health, beauty and the long life of any landscape.
